⸺ The people behind the clinic
Our team
A small, carefully assembled group of clinicians and practitioners united by a commitment to unhurried, whole-person care — and the belief that good psychiatry always begins with genuine listening.
You will always know in advance who you are seeing, and why.
⸺ How we came to be
A clinic built on a
different philosophy…
The Holistic Psychiatry Clinic grew out of a shared frustration — and a shared conviction. Both of us had worked within NHS and private psychiatry for years, and had seen too many patients managed rather than understood; maintained on medication rather than supported toward independence.
We set out to build the kind of practice we wished existed: genuinely unhurried, whole-person, and focused on helping people need us less over time — not more.
“The best outcome for any patient is one where they no longer need a psychiatrist.”
⸺ Founders & Consultant Psychiatrists
The people who built this…
MBBS · FRCPsych · PGCE
Consultant Psychiatrist · Medical Director · Co-founder
Rani qualified as a doctor and trained in psychiatry through the NHS, reaching consultant level with wide experience across general adult, rehabilitation, and community psychiatry. In 2023 she was elected to Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (FRCPsych) — awarded in recognition of her contributions to the field.
Over her career she developed a growing interest in approaches that went beyond conventional psychiatric frameworks — particularly in supporting people to reduce reliance on medication over time, and in using integrative tools including EFT, psychospiritual coaching, and somatic approaches alongside standard clinical care.
She brings a warm, grounded presence to her work, and is known by patients for her ability to hold complexity with both rigour and compassion.
"My goal is not to be needed indefinitely. My goal is to help people develop the clarity and resilience to flourish — with or without medication."

Consultant Psychiatrist · Co-founder
Suraj trained in psychiatry through the NHS and has worked at consultant level across general adult and community psychiatry settings. He brings particular expertise in diagnostic review, extensive neurodevelopmental experience, long-term medication management, and structured deprescribing.
He has a strong interest in the intersection of clinical psychiatry and systems thinking — approaching each patient's presentation not just as a set of symptoms, but as a story shaped by biology, history, and circumstance.
Patients describe his consultations as thorough, unhurried, and genuinely collaborative — a space where their concerns are taken seriously and their goals are treated as central to the clinical plan.
"Good psychiatry starts with listening — not to confirm a diagnosis, but to understand a person."
The Wider Team
Our team is small by design. Every person here shares our values and was chosen carefully.

Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Deprescribing DoctorMark is a doctor and researcher who specialises in helping people safely reduce or stop psychiatric medications, including antidepressants, benzodiazepines, and sleeping tablets. His interest in this area is rooted in his own firsthand experience of how challenging coming off psychiatric drugs can be.
He works in the NHS as co-lead clinician for the National Psychiatric Drug Deprescribing Clinic at NELFT, conducts research through Adelaide University, and holds visiting academic positions at King's College London and UCL. He is lead author of The Maudsley Deprescribing Guidelines — the most comprehensive clinical reference on psychiatric medication reduction available, which informs NHS and NICE guidance on safe prescribing and withdrawal.
He focuses on going slowly, listening carefully to each person's experience, and tailoring reductions to minimise withdrawal symptoms. He is expert in using different formulations — including liquids, tapering strips and other options — alongside practical, supportive guidance throughout the process.
Mark works with us in an advisory and clinical capacity alongside his NHS and academic commitments.

Integrative GP & Lifestyle MedicineDonna qualified in medicine from the University of Leicester in 1996 and spent twenty years as a GP partner before developing a specialist focus in integrative and functional medicine. She holds a Masters in Sport and Exercise Medicine from the University of Nottingham and has undertaken extensive training in lifestyle medicine, functional medicine, and women's health.
She brings to her work a whole-person philosophy shaped by nearly three decades in clinical practice — the belief that symptoms are rarely just biological, and that lasting recovery requires attending to nutrition, the stress response, identity, and the immune system alongside conventional treatment. Her approach is unhurried, collaborative, and deeply personalised.
At The Holistic Psychiatry Clinic, Donna supports patients where physical health, mental health, and lifestyle intersect — particularly those managing long-term conditions, navigating the complexity of multiple medications, or seeking a more integrative understanding of what keeps them unwell.
Dip NT · BANT · ICF Coach
Nutritional Therapist & Somatic CoachRebecca is a BANT-registered Nutritional Therapist and Mind-Body Somatic Coach with a practice spanning nearly a decade. She works at the intersection of nutrition science, nervous system regulation, and embodied coaching — helping clients understand how diet, stress physiology, and behavioural patterns combine to affect their wellbeing.
Her approach is integrative and science-backed, drawing on nutritional therapy and somatic coaching to support people with weight management, hormonal health, anxiety, and digestive issues. She brings both professional expertise and personal lived experience to her work, having navigated thyroid autoimmune conditions, endometriosis, and digestive health challenges herself.
At The Holistic Psychiatry Clinic, Rebecca supports patients for whom nutrition, nervous system regulation, and lifestyle factors are part of the clinical picture — complementing the psychiatric care provided by the clinical team.

Consultant PsychiatristDivina trained in medicine in South Africa before completing her psychiatric training across Ireland and the UK. Her NHS career has spanned inpatient and community mental health services, outpatient eating disorder services, and clinical research at King's College London — where she also contributed to medical education and service development.
She has held a clinical lead role for an outpatient eating disorder service in London, with particular expertise in complex assessment, diagnosis, and pathway development. Alongside her clinical work, she brings a genuinely integrative perspective — drawing on her training in yoga therapy and mindfulness for mental health to support clients with stress, coping, and overall wellbeing alongside conventional psychiatric care.
Divina works with adults navigating depression, anxiety, burnout, ADHD, OCD, relationship difficulties, and eating disorders. Her approach is person-centred and holistic — treating the whole person rather than a presenting diagnosis.
BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing · MSc Mental Health Nursing
Clinic Operations & Governance CoordinatorRachel is a dual‑trained nurse turned administrator who brings clinical compassion and calm organisational skill to the day‑to‑day running of the clinic. She is usually the first warm voice you hear when you get in touch.
Rachel holds a BSc (Hons) in Adult Nursing and a Master's in Mental Health Nursing. She spent several years as Nurse in Charge in a Major Trauma ICU, holding space for people on some of the hardest days of their lives. After the arrival of her second child, she chose to step back from clinical nursing to create a gentler rhythm for her family.
Before nursing, Rachel worked in administration for an MOD contractor — and she now combines that calm, organised way of working with her clinical understanding to support the smooth running of the clinic. She looks after operations, keeps everything flowing quietly in the background, and brings her nursing compassion into every part of her work.
Rachel knows that sometimes life feels heavy or tangled, even when you can't quite explain why. She offers steadiness, kindness, and a genuine sense of being looked after from the moment you reach out.
Outside of work, Rachel likes to play with her children at the beach, as they live near the coast and visit all over the Highlands of Scotland where they live.
Our clinical philosophy
